BANKS TARGETED

Damage caused by firebombs thrown at three west Athens branches

Three banks suffered damage in Aegaleo, western Athens, early yesterday when a group of unknown assailants threw firebombs at the branches on Athinon Avenue, police said. Police said the attacks on the branches of Bank of Cyprus, Piraeus and Emporiki took place at around 1 a.m. No arrests were made.

DVDS CONFISCATED

Operation targets pornography

Police in Hania, Crete, confiscated more than 5,000 DVDs containing pornographic material that were being being given away with newspapers as part of a crackdown on media groups using adult material to boost sales. The DVDs were confiscated at two of the city’s press distribution centers.

Fatal accidents

Two men were killed in separate car accidents on Crete on Saturday. A 22-year-old student was killed in Hania when the motorcycle he was riding slammed into a light pole. The second death involved a 25-year-old man who lost control of his vehicle and hit a tree in Rethymnon.
