A Christmas tree shines...

ORESTIS PANAGIOTOU/ANA

A Christmas tree shines below the Acropolis in Athens yesterday. Shoppers today and tomorrow need to plan their trips around town carefully as strike action is set to stall public transportation. Today, only the metro and electric railway will run (between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.) as union groups continue to protest proposed changes to labor relations at state-owned companies. Tomorrow, no form of public transport will operate. Meanwhile, the Inner Cabinet yesterday approved the new opening hours for public services, which take effect July 2006. Those services will open at 8.30 or 9 a.m. and close at 4 or 4.30 p.m.
