European Union’s Lisbon Treaty...

Armando Franca/AP

Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis and Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis sign the European Union’s Lisbon Treaty during a ceremony in the Portuguese capital yesterday. The treaty, which has been endorsed by all EU leaders, aims to create a more robust common foreign policy and to boost democratic decision-making. It replaces a failed project to establish a European constitution and aims to adapt the bloc’s institutions so they can handle the larger, 27-member, Union.
