Detainee leaps out of police station window

Thessaloniki’s police chief yesterday ordered an internal investigation after a 29-year-old female detainee jumped out of a second-floor window at the city’s police headquarters while waiting for officers to take her fingerprints in connection with alleged drug-related offenses.

The unnamed woman was in critical condition in the intensive-care unit of the local Papageorgiou Hospital.

According to police, officers had been taking the fingerprints of another man and woman – arrested along with the 29-year-old for alleged drug-related offenses – when the suspect made her move.

The woman is alleged to have pushed an officer out of the way, climbed up onto a radiator and jumped out of the window.

She sustained serious injuries, the exact nature of which were not made clear.
