Protesters placed banners outside Parliament...

PANTELIS SAITAS/ANA

Protesters placed banners outside Parliament in central Athens yesterday as they gathered to rally against planned changes to the country’s social security system. Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis said the social security system’s limits are being tested and that action needs to be taken immediately. Unions have threatened to launch further protest action if the conservative government moves ahead with reforms which involve the merging of 155 pension funds into just four to six.
