The entrance to the Columbia record company in Rizoupolis...

P.SAITAS/ANA

The entrance to the Columbia record company in Rizoupolis, where demolition work started yesterday on part of the complex. According to Culture Minister Giorgos Voulgarakis, the entrance and the main structure have been classified as listed buildings but not the remaining seven structures, which have suffered serious damage. Local residents gathered to protest against the demolition, describing the complex as being historic and part of Greece’s cultural heritage. Synaspismos Left Coalition leader Alekos Alavanos said Athens is acquiring malls at the expense of its own history.
