‘Odyssey of Caretta Caretta’...

GIOTA KORMPAKI/ANA

A sea turtle (Caretta caretta) is released into the wild at Gerakas beach on the Ionian island of Zakynthos yesterday after a satellite transmitter had been placed on its back. Queen Sofia of Spain, along with Greek Tourism Minister Aris Spiliotopoulos, launched the scientific program ‘Odyssey of Caretta Caretta’ that will follow the adult sea turtle’s journey through the ocean. A total of 10 sea turtles will be tracked by means of such transmitter devices as scientists try to find out more about the turtle, an endangered species that can still be found on Zakynthos and Cephalonia.
