Police put an end to family tragedy

A Piraeus mother has been arrested on charges of forcing her 12-year-old daughter to work for her as a prostitute for the past 10 months, police said yesterday.

The 50-year-old suspect, whose name was not made public, also faces charges of instigating incestuous acts for allegedly obliging the child to have sex with her 15-year-old brother. Police said the woman acted in cooperation with a 32-year-old neighbor of hers — who has also been arrested — and a 39-year-old Albanian national who is still at large.

The main suspect said she had been forced to sexually exploit her daughter in order to make ends meet.
