Insomniacs advised to wake up and seek help

Thousands of Greeks who suffer from insomnia are likely not seeking medical help that could help them with their problem, according to research carried out ahead of World Sleep Day on March 21.

According to figures presented yesterday by the Hellenic Sleep Research Association (EEEY), 400 Greeks took part in an international survey which showed that although they visited the doctor for other health problems, 68 percent had not sought help for their insomnia.

This is despite the fact that 82 percent of respondents said their sleep problems have a negative effect on their work performance. One in 10 admitted that they have fallen asleep while driving.

On Saturday, a special stand will be set up on Ermou Street in central Athens from which leaflets will be handed out giving advice to people who have sleeping problems.
