A 45-year-old man was arrested after allegedly threatening that a Thessaloniki-Athens train would not reach its destination simply so he could delay a passenger with whom he had had an argument, police said yesterday.

The suspect allegedly called the Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE) on Tuesday afternoon from a pay phone outside the Thessaloniki station. This led to a bomb disposal squad being called in to check the 4.30 p.m. train to Athens but officers did not find any suspect packages.

Police said they arrested the 45-year-old after he was spotted wandering around inside the station and acting suspiciously. Officers said that during questioning the unnamed man admitted he made the anonymous call to OSE because he wanted to delay the train’s departure as he had personal differences with one of the passengers.
