‘Sleeping Maiden’...

Panayiotis Tzamaros/Eurokinissi

A visitor to Athens’s First Cemetery is pictured yesterday taking a photo of Yiannoulis Halepas’s famous ‘Sleeping Maiden’ sculpture, spray-painted by vandals on Saturday night. The sculpture, a landmark in the cemetery, was defaced by what appears to be an anarchist symbol. Athens city officials pledged to build a small museum, within the confines of the cemetery, to house more than 120 funerary monuments.
