A prison inmate impersonating Supreme Court prosecutor Giorgos Sanidas has resurfaced and is telephoning firms seeking donations for charity, Sanidas said yesterday.

The prosecutor warned managers of banks and other businesses to be on their guard as the convict has been making increasingly frequent telephone calls in the countdown to Christmas, hoping to exploit people’s charitable instincts. The alleged fraudster is believed to have made a tidy profit in the past by calling the directors of banks, television channels, hospitals and even clerics while pretending to be Sanidas collecting money for charity. He provides his bank account details over the phone, Sanidas said. There is a possibility that the inmate, believed to be making the calls from prison, has been working with accomplices.

Sanidas said he has “never asked for contributions from third parties nor would I ever do so.”
