The chief of staff...

Sakis Mitrolidis/AFP

The chief of staff of the Greek armed forces, Panayiotis Hinofotis (l), and his Turkish counterpart Yasar Buyukanit are pictured yesterday in Thessaloniki, where they and other Balkan counterparts discussed ways of boosting regional stability. Buyukanit reiterated Ankara’s stance, according to which Turkish jets over the Aegean are flying in international space and therefore not violating Greek air space. Hinofotis countered that international laws cannot be subject to varying interpretations. But both men said they were keen to improve bilateral relations.
