A significant percentage of Greek schoolchildren feel tired, bored or stressed while at school, according to the preliminary results of a study conducted with the nationwide participation of hundreds of pupils, parents and teachers.

Nearly seven in ten (68 percent) schoolchildren feel tired while at school, 58 percent feel pressured, 53 percent are bored and 52 percent feel stressed. As pupils advance from primary to secondary school they become increasingly disillusioned with the quality of teaching.

These are the findings of a study launched by the country’s Education Ministry’s Pedagogic Institute in September 2005 which is due to be completed this September. The aim of the study, which quizzed 4,165 pupils, parents and teachers in 100 schools across the country, is to assess the education system and make proposals, the institute’s president Dimitrios Vlachos said.
