Parents charged with shaking baby to death

A 21-year-old woman and her partner were charged with manslaughter in Athens on Saturday after they allegedly killed their two-month-old baby because it would not stop crying, authorities said yesterday.

Police were called in to investigate the incident when the mother notified ambulance workers on Saturday to pick up her dead baby girl, whom she claimed had passed away in her sleep.

Further questioning by police, however, revealed that the couple had been in an argument on Friday night and that the 26-year-old man, the baby’s father, violently shook the infant when it would not stop crying.

The couple then allegedly went to sleep and found that the baby was dead in the morning.

An investigation is being held into the exact causes of the infant’s death.
