A golden pheasant...

ORESTIS PANAGIOTOU/ANA

A golden pheasant was locked in an enclosed space at a park in Athens yesterday as authorities try to protect it from being infected with the bird flu virus by migratory birds. The number of cases of the H5 strain of the disease has increased in Greece and Europe in the last few days. Local authorities will be expecting the results of H5N1 confirmation tests from a laboratory in England this week concerning three swans found in northern Greece on Friday that had the H5 strain.
