A group of cleaners sweep up the remaining bits of snow and slush from the marble square in front of Parliament in central Athens yesterday. The cleanup coincided with Athens Mayor Nikitas Kaklamanis promoting City Hall’s new initiative to reform litterbugs and encourage all citizens to dump their trash in the designated bins, and recycle plastics, metals and glass. The initiative, dubbed ‘Find the Right Spot,’ cis running alongside a drive to replace plastic bags in supermarkets with environmentally friendly cloth and hemp alternatives.
