Webcam peeping Tom ‘spied’ on teenage girl

A 45-year-old suspected cyber voyeur was arrested after allegedly hacking into a teenage girl’s computer and spying on her via her webcam, Cypriot police said yesterday.

The suspect was picked up on Monday after a 17-year-old girl told officers that he tracked her down through an Internet chatroom and e-mailed her with a recording showing her coming out of the shower and getting dressed. He allegedly threatened to forward the video to everyone in her electronic address book unless she gave in to his sexual advances.

The girl, who refused to give in, said the suspect then hacked into her computer, found her cellular phone number and began sending her suggestive text messages. Officers tracked down the man using the phone number which the alleged victim had passed on to them. They confiscated three computers from the suspected peeping Tom’s home.
