Afghan man killed in downtown dispute

A 20-year-old Afghan man was stabbed to death in central Athens late on Friday night in the second consecutive night of downtown violence involving migrants.

Police said that the 20-year-old was stabbed by a compatriot at a property on Menandrou Street, near Omonia Square, during a row that broke out among a group of some 10 men who were gambling.

The unnamed victim was taken to the hospital after being stabbed in the chest, but died 20 minutes after his arrival. No details of any arrests were made public.

The incident came 24 hours after a clash between some 120 migrants in the downtown neighborhood of Aghios Penteleimonas. Police said that Iranians, Afghans and Kurds were involved in the clash, which left one person injured and is thought to have been caused by religious differences. Seven suspects were arrested.
