MONDAY

Prime Minister Costas Simitis visits President Costis Stephanopoulos to brief him on domestic and foreign affairs.

- Public Order Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis will brief President Costis Stephanopoulos and opposition party leaders on progress in war on domestic terrorism.

- Foreign Minister George Papandreou attends meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels. To Tuesday.

- European Commissioner for Regional Policy Michel Barnier arrives in Athens on an official visit. Barnier will meet with Prime Minister Costas Simitis, Athens 2004 Organizing Committee President Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki, National Economy Minister Nikos Christodoulakis, and Environment Minister Vasso Papandreou. The commissioner will also deliver a speech at the Greek Parliament on the future of Europe.

- International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge meets with Athens 2004 Organizing Committee President Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki at Olympia.

- Representatives of the Civil Servants’ Union to meet with the general secretary of the Interior Ministry, Giorgos Nikitiadis, to resume talks on the new salary scale for public sector.

TUESDAY

Public Order Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis holds a news conference on developments in the war on domestic terrorism.

- In Washington, the American Hellenic Institute holds a forum featuring US Ambassador to Greece, Thomas Miller, at Hellenic House, 1220 16th Street. At noon.

WEDNESDAY

Alexandros Yotopoulos, alleged leader of the November 17 terrorist group, to appear before an investigating magistrate. He is charged with multiple counts of murders, bombings and other crimes.

- Administrative European Commission convenes in Brussels to decide on the cotton quantity produced in Greece in 2001-2 and to finalize the price of the product.

- Transport Minister Christos Verelis travels to Crete to inaugurate the new runway of Siteia’s airport.

- UN Information Center to present a report on Human Development for 2002, titled “Democratic Growth in a Divided World.” At the Foreign Press Association, 23 Academias.

FRIDAY

Social Security Foundation (IKA) doctors stage a 24-hour strike demanding the immediate recruitment of 5,300 doctors who have been on temporary contracts.
