Woman throws acid at Cypriot policemen

NICOSIA (AFP) - A Cypriot woman burned the faces of five policemen with acid yesterday after they entered her home to arrest her, state radio reported.

The 35-year-old threw the acid in the officers’ faces when they knocked on the door of her village house in the southeastern part of the island just before midday.

They had come armed with two outstanding arrest warrants against her for assaulting another woman and for failing to appear in court.

With the policemen incapacitated, she rushed out of the house, jumped into a car with the number plates removed and sped off, the report said.

The woman, a native of the island’s second city Limassol, is still at large.

All five officers were treated at a local clinic and then released, police told AFP.
