The Health Ministry is holding a blood donation drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at its main building on Aristotelous Street in central Athens. The appeal is being organized by the ministry’s Greek Association of Blood Donors, which says that blood banks run low in the summer and that it would like people to give blood before going on holiday.

The Panhellenic Federation of Employees in Petroleum Products, Refineries and the Chemical Industry is holding a press conferences in Thessaloniki.

Police officers, firefighters and coast guards to hold a rally from the Hilton Hotel to Syntagma Square at 5 p.m. They are demanding the salary increase which was promised before the elections.

Labor Minister Savvas Tsitouridis visits the headquarters of the IKA social security fund.

Culture Minister Giorgos Voulgarakis visits the prefectures of Evros, Xanthi and Rhodope. He will be visiting archaeological sites until tomorrow.

Port workers in Thessaloniki are due to meet today to decide whether to continue their current industrial action. The Thessaloniki Port Authority wants to change the way that the workers, some 150 people, are paid. The workers want to maintain their current system of bonuses.

Tuesday

The Inner Cabinet is to meet to discuss tourism development issues and the appointment of a new Supreme Court prosecutor.

The Government Council on Foreign Policy and Defense (KYSEA) is to meet under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis to discuss the long-term modernization of the armed forces.
