Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is seen outside the tiled exterior of the Al-Shaab Palace in Damascus yesterday where he later received his visiting Greek counterpart Karolos Papoulias for talks. ‘Real peace cannot be achieved in the region if all sides do not respect and accept the decisions of the [United Nations] Security Council and if the Golan Heights are not returned to Syria,’ Papoulias said after the talks.
