Australia’s most wanted fugitive, Tony Mokbel, yesterday accused a Greek court, reviewing a request for his extradition, of ignoring evidence to speed up a verdict.

“They want an easy decision because they are not interested in my life,” said Mokbel, 42, who has been detained in Greece since June when he was arrested for using forged documents.

Mokbel had been on the run since March 2006 when he absconded during his trial in Australia on drug-trafficking charges.

Mokbel, who faces a 12-year jail sentence in Australia, told Greek judges he would not get a fair trial at home. “It would be like sending me to Hitler,” he said.

The 42-year-old was angered by judges’ calls for his trial to be brief, due to the heat wave. “There’s no ‘It’s hot and I want to go home’ – where is the proof?” he said. The court’s decision is due tomorrow morning, according to Mokbel’s lawyer, who said his chances of vindication were good.
