Changes in the tax law and fewer bureaucratic procedures have helped boat sales in Greece grow by as much as 100 percent in different categories, according to industry data.

Figures from the Hellenic Marine Industry Association (SEKAPLAS) show that in recent years the number of speedboats being added to Greek waters every year reaches about 10,000. SEKAPLAS general secretary Costas Biskinis told Kathimerini that the boat registry grows annually by about 15-17 percent. “We are at the start of an upward trend which is likely to peak in the future,” he said.

Among the recent changes introduced by the government is that taxpayers are no longer required to declare a minimum income based on the ownership of a boat.

According to Ekka yachts, one category of boats priced between 250,000 and 13 million euros is currently showing annual sales growth of 100 percent.
