The Cambodian-flagged...

EPA

The Cambodian-flagged, Greek-owned Winner freighter enters the northern French port of Brest under military escort yesterday, after being stopped and boarded west of the Canary Islands by the French navy on June 13, following cooperation by Greek, French, US and Spanish anti-narcotics agencies. It was originally believed to be carrying over 10 tons of cocaine, but this estimate was downscaled yesterday to two tons, much of which was dumped overboard by crew. Only 80-90 kilos have been found so far, but a thorough search began yesterday. Two Greeks, including the captain, were among the 11 crew members detained yesterday. Three Greeks have been arrested in Athens, including two men registered as the Winner’s owners, and charged with smuggling.
