International Holocaust Memorial Day...

Nikolas Giakoumidis/AP

A survivor of the Holocaust touches a monument commemorating the World War II massacre in Thessaloniki yesterday. Similar ceremonies were held in cities across the world on the occasion of International Holocaust Memorial Day. The Thessaloniki event was attended by politicians and members of the local Jewish community. Some 50,000 Greek Jews were killed in Thessaloniki during WWII, nearly 90 percent of the city’s Jewish population. Today there are about 1,500 Jews living in Thessaloniki.
