New traffic restrictions tomorrow

Traffic police will enforce strict traffic restrictions in central Athens tomorrow due to the men’s marathon race but also to facilitate the journey of spectators to and from the Olympic closing ceremony in Maroussi.

Parking will be banned along the marathon route from 10 p.m. today, and traffic from 3.30 p.m. to 10 p.m. tomorrow. The route includes Marathonos, Mesogeion and Vassileos Constantinou avenues.

Also tomorrow, there will be a ban — from 5 p.m. and 2 a.m. — on all but Games-related traffic on Kifissias Avenue (between Ambelokipi and Attiki Odos), Vas. Sofias Avenue (between Amalias Avenue and the Hilton), and on sections of Kymis and Veikou avenues.

Motorists will only be able to cross the Vas. Sofias-Kifissias Avenue axis at certain points during the ban.

Between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. tomorrow, the flow of traffic will be reversed on Vas. Georgiou Street.

Only vehicles with official Olympic accreditation will be allowed to access the banned areas, with “Olympic taxis” also prohibited.
