Almost 70 percent of senior high school students who sat university entrance exams this summer learned yesterday that they have passed, although a last minute mix-up at the Education Ministry may deny some of them a place in tertiary education.

Of 99,873 students that sat the exams, 69,501 secured a place at a university or technical college (TEI), after achieving an average of 50 percent to pass the tests.

The results were announced at 9.30 a.m. yesterday but in the early afternoon the ministry said that a mistake had been made in relation to the students that have been admitted to military academies.

The situation had not been resolved by yesterday evening and could have implications for some of the students that have been admitted to other institutions.

If some of the students who had been accepted at the military academies are assigned to other colleges, it could lead to others missing out all together.
