A view yesterday...

NIKOS ARVANITIDIS/ANA

A view yesterday of a section of the Egnatia highway in the Ioannina region in western Greece. Government officials estimate the road, which is expected to significantly improve northern Greece’s road network and consequently help boost trade ties with the country’s northern neighbors, will be finished in 2008. The first toll station on the road is set to open next spring. The cost of motorists’ use of the road has yet to be determined but will depend on the distance covered by each vehicle, according to government sources.
