National Bank of Greece has called on its customers to ignore e-mails from senders that claim to represent the bank in their attempt to obtain personal details, just days after peer Alpha was targeted in a similar scheme.

Over the past week, National Bank customers have been receiving e-mails from parties that have nothing to do with the lender, requesting personal details such as bank account numbers and security codes.

Greece's largest bank, National, instructed its customers to immediately disregard these messages.

The targeting of bank customers in the Greek market is the second such incident in the last few days.

On Tuesday thousands of Alpha Bank customers received e-mails from senders outside of Greece asking for personal information against threats to have their accounts frozen.
