Government transport experts are in talks with local authorities in a bid to overhaul Attica’s public transport network, developing fixed-track modes of transport such as the metro, tram and electric railway and restricting bus services to the outskirts of the city to free up roads, Transport and Communications Minister Evripidis Stylianidis revealed yesterday.

“The basic philosophy behind our initiative is to boost fixed-track modes of transport, which are more environmentally friendly, faster and more punctual,” Stylianidis said, adding that the project would also result in the “decongestion of the historic center.”

Meanwhile the Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA) heralded the launch of a Tourist Ticket that offers access to all modes of public transport, including the bus service linking the capital with the airport, for three days at a cost of 15 euros. The new ticket, valid as of tomorrow, will also allow commuters to ride on the No 400 sightseeing bus run by the City of Athens.
