Seventh hiker’s body is found

Rescue workers yesterday found the body of a 37-year-old hiker in the Lousios River in the southern Peloponnese where another six hikers died last Saturday in a flash flood.

Rescuers found Maria Parnassa in a location that had reportedly been checked several times previously but which was more accessible yesterday after floodwaters receded. The search for Dimitris Kotsikas, 27, the last of the 18-strong hiking group who is still missing, continued last night.

Meanwhile, the two owners of the firm that organized Saturday’s trip were released after paying bail of 20,000 euros each and being barred from leaving the country.

While giving evidence before an investigating magistrate, Leonardos Moraitis and Constantinos Christopoulos attributed the tragedy to “unprecedented” weather conditions.
