Long queues formed as fuel supplies were exhausted at many gas stations yesterday on the second day of a strike by fuel tanker owners, who claimed oil companies had reneged on a promise to raise charges. There were fears that local shipping and airport supplies would be affected. But late last night, the government brokered a compromise according to which charges will rise from next year and not immediately.
