Two more bronze medals take Greek tally to 24 in China

Che Jon Fernandes finished third in the shot put F53/54 with 8.29 meters to win a bronze medal for Greece at the Paralympics.

Che Jon Fernandes and Alexandra Dimoglou gave Greece two more bronze medals yesterday, taking the country’s tally to 24, its best ever performance in any Paralympic Games.

Fernandes finished third in shot put F53/54 event with 8.29 meters, 43 centimeters, behind the winner, Mauro Maximo of Mexico.

In the women’s athletics 100-meter T13 race, Dimoglou came third and Anthi Karayianni seventh. This was Dimoglou’s third medal after her silver in the 400 meters and bronze in the 200 meters.

Paraskevi Kantza was fifth in the 200-meters T11, clocking 26.87 seconds. In the discus F42, Marinos Fylachtos finished sixth, while Yiannis Protos was seventh in the 100-meter T13 final.

The Beijing Paralympics conclude today with the marathon, the fencing finals and the closing ceremony at 3 p.m. Greek time.
