Greeks have excelled so far in the Aegean Rally international sailing competition. Sony-Chicago Guapa of Skipper Dimitris Deliyiannis is leading after the first three stages, with one more to go plus a windward/leeward race set for tomorrow. The leader is followed by Wind-Zantino, Superfast, Erytos II-Cosmote and Aces. Superfast actually won the third stage of the race from Leipsoi in the Dodecanese to Tinos in the Cyclades, but has not covered the overall gap separating it from the two leading boats. The race has once again been tough for all 56 entrants as the wind continually changed directions.

The national tennis team is close to relegation to the Europe/Africa Group III of the Davis Cup after trailing 2-0 to Hungary on Friday in a best-of-five playoff in Thessaloniki. Teenagers Constantinos Mikos and Haris Kapoyiannis were unable to challenge their Hungarian opponents, Sebo Kiss and Kornel Bardoczky respectively and lost 3-0 in both matches. Today the two Greeks play Bardoczky and Robert Varga in the doubles, while tomorrow Mikos faces Bardoczky and Kapoyiannis comes up against Kiss. The Greeks must win all three matches for the team to stay up.

Panionios entertains Italian Serie A side Napoli tomorrow (7 p.m.) in the first leg of the third round of soccer’s Intertoto Cup at Nea Smyrni. Coach Ewald Lienen’s team is bracing for a tough challenge but it will have at least 5,000 fans by its side. The second leg is scheduled for the following weekend, with the winner graduating to the UEFA Cup.

German side Eintracht Frankfurt has presented its new signings of the summer, including Greece striker Nikos Lymberopoulos. The former AEK player, 33, moved to the Bundesliga side last weekend and fulfilled his dream of participating in a more competitive league, signing a two-year contract with the team that also features Greek international Yiannis Amanatidis.
