Daniilidou set to miss Wimbledon

The country’s leading tennis player, Eleni Daniilidou, is certain to miss Wimbledon as well as next month’s French Open as she recovers from knee surgery.

Daniilidou was a guest at the ATP Athens Open on Sunday where she spent the afternoon sitting in the VIP area and hobbling around on crutches.

“There is no way I will be fit either for Paris or Wimbledon,” she told www.sportingreece.com. “It is very disappointing but there is not much I can do except physiotherapy to get my knee right for later in the year.”

Daniilidou suffered the injury during a match with Shuai Peng in Miami at the start of the month, retiring after just two games.

Organizers of the Athens Open are keeping their fingers crossed that the 25-year-old Daniilidou can recover as they are hoping to organize a women’s event in Athens for September with Daniilidou as the star attraction.
