Castillo says ‘Si’ to Mexico squad

Olympiakos striker Nery Castillo yesterday reiterated his wish to play for the Mexico national soccer team, putting an end to speculation about him possibly playing for Greece.

“I will play for Mexico, this country is in my blood; I have informed manager Hugo Sanchez about it. He is a clever man and told me things that have helped me but I will keep to myself,” Castillo told Mexican television.

He is set to feature in Mexico’s team for the Gold Cup, starting on June 6, and then the Copa America that lasts from June 26 until July 15.

This means that the Mexico-born player with Uruguayan ancestry and seven years in Greece will have definitely chosen Mexico as his soccer nationality. It also creates a headache for Olympiakos manager Takis Lemonis, who will hope that Mexico does not go far in the Copa America so that his player misses as little as possible of the crucial pre-season training.
