Bulgarians celebrate St Nicholas

AP

A Bulgarian fisherman drags a net yesterday in the Black Sea near the village of Galata, about 440 kilometers (274 miles) northeast of the capital Sofia, as part of Saint Nicholas Day celebrations. Saint Nicholas is considered the protector saint of fishermen and sailors in Bulgaria. Bulgaria will officially join the European Union on January 1, 2007.
