Taxi drivers arrested for cheating

Eight taxi drivers, including one foreign national, were arrested early Saturday for illegal practices following random inspections in Athens.

Six drivers were detained on charges of tampering with their cash registers so as not to provide customers with itemized receipts, while two were charged with rigging their meters in order to make the fare appear higher.

It is estimated that taxis have seen a 40-60 percent decline in business since 2010.
