Police arrest suspect over Peristeri jewel heist

Police have arrested a man suspected of being involved in an armed robbery at a jewellery shop in Peristeri, western Athens.

The shop was held up by three men wielding a handgun on Saturday morning, police said. They fled in a car after stealing an unknown amount of merchandise.

The getaway car was discovered in the parking lot of Karaiskaki Stadium in Neo Faliro, south of Athens. Officers of the motorcycle-riding DIAS squad later arrested a man who was found carrying a gun.

Police were looking for the other two suspects.

No one was injured during the robbery.
