Angela Merkel to visit Athens on April 11

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is expected to make a fresh visit to Greece on April 11, Kathimerini understands.

The German leader's visit follows the approval by eurozone officials on Tuesday of 8.3 billion euros in rescue loans to Greece.

German media suggested that Merkel's visit to Athens was meant as a display of support to the Greek premier and his efforts to implement the country's pledged reforms.

Merkel's last visit to Greece was in October 2012.
