Ex-Golden Dawn MP cites poor mental state in face of prosecutors' questions

Former Golden Dawn MP Stathis Boukouras refused to answer magistrates questions on Monday when he faced them on charges of illegally possessing weapons.

Boukouras is reported to have said he was not in the right frame of mind to respond to questions. He claimed to have attempted to have killed himself twice while in pre-trial custody.

Magistrates released him after he submitted a written deposition but he returned to custody for separate charges of being part of a criminal organization. Boukouras repeated he was not a fascists or Nazi and that he was not aware or involved in Golden Dawns illegal activities.

Boukouras quit the party recently. The independent MPs appearance before magistrates signals the start of a new round of questioning for Golden Dawn lawmakers.

Neofasicst MP Dimitris Koukoutsis is due to face magistrates on Friday, Nikos Kouzilos on June 10, Eleni Zaroulia, wife of party leader Nikos Michaloliakos, on June 12, and Michalis Arvanitis on June 13.

Chrysovalantis Alexopoulos, who also quit the far right party, is due to face magistrates on June 16.
