One in three workers are uninsured in Greece, according to inspections carried out by the labor inspection squad (SEPE) in the first six months of the year on a total of 18,698 businesses.
Inspections conducted jointly by SEPE and a social security monitoring service EYPEA found that 35,674 people were working without any social security benefits. Of these, 5,411 or 42.8 percent are foreign nationals and 7,218 or 57.2 percent are Greeks. None of them were registered in the inspected companies' logs or with the IKA Social Security Foundation.
A total of 6.8 million euros in fines were issued for breaches of insurance regulations.
