Minister calls on PASOK to propose measures to offset 25-euro hospital charge
Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis on Friday responded to objections expressed by socialist PASOK to a 25-euro charge that state hospitals are to charge anyone admitted for treatment, calling on the junior coalition partner to propose other measures that will raise the 40 million euros that the incentive is projected to bring in.
"We don't have to argue. If PASOK says that the measure, which has been approved twice in Parliament, should not be enforced...it must propose other fiscal measures to offset the lost revenue," Georgiadis said.
The minister defended the measure, saying that it was "very logical" and that it would help provide health services to the poor.
Georgiadis added that the 40 million euros the government expects to raise from the measure would be reaped back into state hospitals to cover the medical costs of the poor.
