Two arrested over virus behind theft of bitcoins

Two Greeks who allegedly developed a computer virus that infected some 250,000 computers and helped them steal (or mine) bitcoins, a virtual currency, which they then converted into fiat money, have been arrested.

The pair, aged 27 and 31, accused of creating the Lecpetex virus were arrested in Athens. Police said they found 26,610 files on their computers with details stolen from victims computers. The two men also mined 114 bitcoin wallets.

The arrests halted a significant threat that caused problems for millions of Internet users around the world, said Cyber Crimes Unit chief Manolis Sfakianakis.
