Police were investigating the fatal shooting of a Greek Orthodox priest in Zacharo in the Peloponnesian region of Ilia on Monday.
According to reports, the 51-year-old priest from Pyra, Fokida, had withdrawn an unknown amount of cash from a bank ATM before getting into his vehicle and driving to a parking lot, when two unknown assailants riding a motorcycle approached his car and shot him dead.
The priest’s wife, who was riding in the car with him, was taken to hospital in a state of shock.
The priest, who also owned a taverna, had allegedly received a number of threatening phone calls prior to the attack.
