Cameras installed on Greek highway to deter toll dodgers
Surveillance cameras started operating at tollgates along the Athens-Corinth national highway on Tuesday night with the aim of cracking down on motorists who lift the barriers without paying toll charges.
The cameras have been installed at the Elefsina, Nea Peramos and Pachi Megara tollgates.
Fines of 200 euros will be sent to the homes of offenders, who also face the revocation of their driving license and vehicle license plates for 20 days.
As of Thursday motorists will face increased charges at the Pelasgia toll gates in Fthiotida – 3.50 euros instead of 2.70 euros – and at the Moschohori toll station in Pieria – 4 euros instead of 3.10 euros.
Toll charges increased on Tuesday at the Elefsina and Corinth Canal tollgates.
