A 21-year-old gardener, who was being questioned by police in connection with a brutal attack on a 15-year-old girl on Paros, has been taken into custody, officers said on Saturday.
Sources said that the arrest was made after DNA tests confirmed that the sample taken from the suspect, a Pakistani national, matched evidence collected from the teenager.
The girl, still in critical condition after being raped and suffering serious head injuries, was attacked on Chrysi Akti beach last month.
The 21-year-old allegedly worked at a hotel on the beach but left on the day of the attack. Police said the gardener was picked up during a random check in Athens.
Labor Minister Yiannis Vroutsis announced on Thursday a new government initiative, to apply from January 2014, that will offer 75,000 new jobs for young people.
