In testimony on Tuesday to prosecutors probing claims by Panayiotis Roumeliotis, Greece’s ex-envoy to the International Monetary Fund, that the country’s foreign bailout was bound to fail, former Socialist Defense Minister Gerasimos Arsenis reportedly revealed that Roumeliotis had expressed reservations to him in private.
According to sources, Arsenis, the husband of ex-Economy Minister Louka Katseli, told financial prosecutors that Roumeliotis had expressed concerns and doubts about the viability of Greece’s rescue program during private conversations but that he had not made them public as he was not a government official at the time and had not been asked to comment.
Arsenis was called to testify as his name was reportedly mentioned in Roumeliotis’s deposition. The ex-minister’s testimony followed that of Katseli on Monday. Next up are former Socialist minister Vasso Papandreou and ex-government officials Giorgos Zanias and Petros Christodoulou.
